Lady Wolves In Search Of Victory
LINCOLN — The Lady Wolves began the 2018 volleyball season 0-2 following a 3-0 loss at Mansfield Tuesday, Aug. 28 and 3-0 home loss to Prairie Grove in the seasonopener.
Mansfield beat Lincoln 25-9, 25-7, and 25-15 leaving Lincoln still looking for its first win. Lincoln graduated several key players from a 2017 team that finished 7-7 in conference play, the school’s first-ever .500 showing in league volleyball competition.
Lauren Merritt-Creed coached that team, which competed as a 4A-1 school. This season, Lincoln has a new coach and competes as a member of the 3A-1 West.
Prairie Grove defeated Lincoln in three straight sets Aug. 27, winning 25-8, 25-16 and 25-10 for a sweep of the Lady Wolves. Senior Sophia Nunziato recorded 11 kills while sophomores Lexi Light (6) and Kennedy Conrad (5) combined to equal that number leading the Lady Tiger attack.
Prairie Grove had 8 blocks led by junior Jansen Williams with 4.
Sophomore Sydney Stearman accounted for 11 of Prairie Grove’s 40 digs. Sophomore Madison Hutchison dished out 11 of the Lady Tigers’ 27 assists.
Prairie Grove served 9 aces. Three players had two apiece: junior Samantha Blosser, Hutchison, and sophomore Makinsey Parnell.
Booneville handed Lincoln a nonconference, 25-19, 25-9, 25-10 (0-3) loss Thursday.
Lincoln senior Libby Calico, shown playing the ball over the net as a junior against Elkins, returns from injury to help the Lady Wolves in her senior season.
