Farm­ing­ton Sev­enth Graders De­feat Prairie Grove 24-0

FARM­ING­TON — The an­nual ‘Bat­tle of 62’ foot­ball ri­valry be­tween Farm­ing­ton and Prairie Grove com­pleted with a clean sweep by the Car­di­nals at all lev­els on open­ing week­end of foot­ball sea­son.

The sweep be­gan with the Car­di­nal sev­enth grade team win­ning their first-ever game.

Farm­ing­ton de­feated Prairie Grove 24-0 in sev­enth grade foot­ball ac­tion Thurs­day, Aug. 30, 2018, at Allen Hol­land Field. Farm­ing­ton went up 16-0 at half­time af­ter two touch­down runs by Gabe Bur­fitt and a pair of 2-point con­ver­sions by Har­ri­son Oliver. The ju­nior Car­di­nals tacked on an­other touch­down af­ter half­time with an­other run by Bur­fitt. Cameron Van­zant added the 2-point con­ver­sion with a run around the right side. Coach Si Horn­beck was ex­tremely pleased, say­ing, “Any­time you can keep a team from scor­ing it’s some­thing to be proud of, es­pe­cially when that team is the Prairie Grove Tigers. I loved how phys­i­cal we played. It’s a sign of great things to come”

On Thurs­day, the sev­enth grade foot­ball team im­proved to 2-0 by post­ing an 8-0 shutout at Gravette. The ju­nior high team fol­lowed that with a 36-14 tri­umph over the ju­nior Lions.
