Farmington Seventh Graders Defeat Prairie Grove 24-0
FARMINGTON — The annual ‘Battle of 62’ football rivalry between Farmington and Prairie Grove completed with a clean sweep by the Cardinals at all levels on opening weekend of football season.
The sweep began with the Cardinal seventh grade team winning their first-ever game.
Farmington defeated Prairie Grove 24-0 in seventh grade football action Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Allen Holland Field. Farmington went up 16-0 at halftime after two touchdown runs by Gabe Burfitt and a pair of 2-point conversions by Harrison Oliver. The junior Cardinals tacked on another touchdown after halftime with another run by Burfitt. Cameron Vanzant added the 2-point conversion with a run around the right side. Coach Si Hornbeck was extremely pleased, saying, “Anytime you can keep a team from scoring it’s something to be proud of, especially when that team is the Prairie Grove Tigers. I loved how physical we played. It’s a sign of great things to come”
On Thursday, the seventh grade football team improved to 2-0 by posting an 8-0 shutout at Gravette. The junior high team followed that with a 36-14 triumph over the junior Lions.
