Looking Through Clippings

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

Congratulations to Rep. Charlene Fite who won the beautiful quilt during the Cane Hill Festival. It couldn’t happen to a nicer person.

We didn’t go to the Cane Hill Festival, but I did enjoy a visit with my nephew, Charlie Pitts, when he came by after attending the Festival. He brought two big packages of photos that he wants me to look through and write names and dates that I know. Some are already dated wrong, and I was able to help there. And I did, so much, enjoy the visit.

Anna has also brought news and picture clippings that were handed down to her. (Very interesting reading). On the back of one part was an ad of “Bill’s Grocery and Market” in Lincoln, dated 1969. Some of the prices were, “frozen pies, $.29; bacon, $.59; orange juice, $.19; ice milk, $.39 per half gal.; ham hock, $.19; apple jelly, $.25 a jar; potato puffs, $.27 box.”

The front part of this were two poems, by Robert Holt, one of five verses, “The Holt Reunion, and one of 20 verses of the “The Holt Family Tree.”

The clippings that were dated were from the mid to late ’60s, so I assume all were written then.

Kenneth and Sharon Davis have returned from their yearly family reunion and cruise. Every member of their extended family, except one, were able to go this year, and they surely made enough good memories to last another year. They returned home the first part of this week, and after being gone 10 days, they lit right in to mowing and weed-eating (and laundry). I forgot to ask if their bird feeders were empty.

Happy birthday to Xavier Pettigrew, Nelda Hacker, Julie Myers, Terri Boyd, Thelma Napier, Loyd W. Luginbuel, Nell Johnston, Abagaile Uselton, Brittany Lipford, Lola Bradley.

Happy anniversary to Chris and Megan Luttrell, Vince and Alicia Wofford.

Happy years, all!
