Farmington Boys Doubles Finish 1-2

FARMINGTON — Both Farmington boys doubles teams advanced from the District 4A-1 tennis tournament held at Harrison last week to state.

The tandems of Joshua Jowers and Noah Disheroon seeded No. 1 in the tournament bracket for boys doubles; as well as Taylor Raabe and Connor Sharp seeded No. 2 for boys doubles, lived up to their billing.

Jowers and Disheroon had a first-round bye. They defeated No. 4 seeded Micah Sam and Luke Mitchell, of Prairie Grove, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinals and their teammates, Farmington’s No. 2 boys doubles team of Raabe and Sharp, 6-2, 6-0, in the final. No. 3 seeded Mason Harrison and Joey Adams, of Harrison, lost to Raabe and Sharp, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, in the semifinals after receiving a first-round bye.

Harrison won both boys and girls singles titles with No. 1 seed Donnie Armstrong, taking home the boys singles title while his counterpar­t No. 1 seed, Clairie Doshier, won the girls singles crown.

Armstrong had a firstround bye, then beat No. 4 seed Brandon LeDuc, of Prairie Grove, 6-4, 6-1, in the semifinal. LeDuc defeated Gavin Pennington, of Farmington, 6-0, 7-5, in the first-round. LeDuc defeated Farmington’s Conner Kennedy in the consolatio­n match and won 8-4 to place third. Kennedy began the tournament by defeating Kendall Ferm, of Shiloh Christian, 6-1, 6-2.

Prairie Grove’s Cole Vertz finshed second. He upset No. 3 seed Kennedy, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals, and lost to Armstrong, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in the final. GIRLS

In the first-round, Doshier defeated Prairie Grove’s Grace Gauldin, 6-0, 6-0. Doshier got by Shiloh’s Rachel Thomas, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinal and beat Farmington senior Reagan White, 6-0, 6-1, in the final. Third place went to No. 3 seed Elise Bell, of Harrison, who defeated Thomas 8-4 in the consolatio­n match.

White defeated Breanna Mapes, of Shiloh Christian, in the first-round, 6-1, 6-0; then beat No. 3 seed Elise Bell, of Harrison, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0, in the tournament semifinal. White carries a 9-5 record into state.

Farmington’s Katelyn Cunningham was defeated, 6-2, 6-0, by No. 4 seed Rachel Thomas, of Shiloh Christian, in the first-round. Cunningham finished with an 8-4 season record.

Harrison placed one-two in girls doubles competitio­n with top-seeded Lindsey Ward and Isabell McNutt defeating their third-seeded teammates, Camryn Casey and Kylie Anderson, 6-1, 6-4, in the final. Ward and McNutt had a first-round bye, then beat Farmington’s Isabella Guess and Morgan Campbell, 7-5, 6-1, in the semifinal. Guess and Campbell upset No. 4 seeded Prairie Grove’s Alyssa LeDuc and Julissa Mauk, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, in the first-round.

Casey and Anderson defeated Shiloh’s Ashby McKenzie and Lizzie Howell, 6-4, 6-0, in the first-round; then beat Farmington’s Taighton Pettigrew and Mary Stewart-Beard, 6-0, 6-3, in the semifinal. Pettigrew and Beard defeated Prairie Grove’s Maci Edwards and Toni Parrish, 6-1, 6-1, in the firstround. Pettigrew and Beard placed third by defeating their teammates, Guess and Campbell, 8-6, in the consolatio­n match.

The top two finishers from district will advance to the 2018 State 4A tennis tournament to be hosted by Pulaski Academy at the Rebsamen Tennis Center, 1501 Leisure Place, in Little Rock Oct. 8-9. A meeting to determine which other athletes qualify for state will be held Thursday.

Receiving All-District tennis honors for Farmington were: White, Pettigrew, Beard, Guess, and Morgan Campbell, for the girls team. Boys receiving All-District tennis honors for Farmington included: Conner Kennedy, Joshua Jowers, Noah Disheroon, Taylor Raabe and Connor Sharp.
