Local Races On Ballot

FARMINGTON — Election polls open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. for Tuesday’s general election. All eligible voters in Washington County will be able to cast their vote at any of the vote centers in the county.

Vote centers are located multiple places in western Washington County.

In Farmington, voters can go to Main Street Baptist Church. In Prairie Grove, a voting center is at Prairie Grove Christian Church. In Lincoln, voters can go to the community building on Lincoln Square.

Centers located outside the cities are Cane Hill College, Cincinnati fire station and Wedington community building in Summers, Evansville fire station, Morrow fire station and Rheas Mill community building.

Early voting is still going on and continues through Nov. 5. The last opportunit­y to cast an early vote will be at the Washington County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5.

City Council and mayoral races will be on the ballots for Farmington, Prairie Grove and Lincoln. Prairie Grove and Lincoln also have sales tax questions on their ballots.

Farmington

The city of Farmington has one race on the ballot. Incumbent Shelley Parsley and challenger Philip Miley are running for City Council Ward 4, Position 2 on the ballot.

All other candidates are unopposed for municipal office. Running unopposed for re-election are Ernie Penn for mayor, Steve Tennant for city attorney and Kelly Penn for city clerk.

Incumbents running unopposed for re-election to the City Council are Linda Bell for Ward 2, Position 2; and Bobby Morgan for Ward 3, Position 2. Abigail Spinks is a newcomer running unopposed for Ward 1, Position 2. The current Council member in that seat, Patsy Pike, did not run for re-election.

These are four-year positions.

Lincoln

The city of Lincoln has three candidates running for mayor. All candidates running for City Council are unopposed.

Mayoral candidates running for a four-year term are Jason Davis, Lincoln City Council member Doug Hutchens and Chris Porter.

Two newcomers are running unopposed for the City Council: Pam Christian for Ward 1, Position 2; and Terry Bryson for Ward 2, Position 2. Others are incumbents: Doug Moore for Ward 1, Position 1; Bobby McDonald for Ward 3, Position 1; Doyle Dixon for Ward 4, Position 1; and Johnny Stowers for Ward 4, Position 2. Council members serve two-year terms.

The Lincoln ballot also includes a sales tax question and voters are asked to vote “for” or “against” a .75-percent sales tax. City officials have said revenue from a new tax would be used to hire two new officers and used to help clean up the city.

Prairie Grove

Prairie Grove has two local races on the ballot.

Mayor Sonny Hudson is running for re-election and is challenged by J.G. Ward.

For Ward 3, Position 1 on the City Council, incumbent Doug Stumbaugh and challenger Rochelle-Hyler Caswell are seeking office.

Unopposed candidates for municipal office and City Council in Prairie Grove are Christine Kelly for city clerk; Doug Bartholome­w for Ward 1, Position 1; Robert Dunningham for Ward 2, Position 1; and Marquita Smith for Ward 4, Position 1. These are four-year positions.

The Prairie Grove ballot includes a sales tax question, asking voters to vote “for” or “against” a .50-percent sales tax. The ballot states that net proceeds from the tax will be used for police and fire personnel costs.
