Former Rival Coaches Versus Farmington
FARMINGTON — A former rival showed up on the opponent’s bench as Farmington took on No. 1 seed Valley View and lost 25-10, 25-12, 25-20 on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, in the tourney’s firstround at Mena.
Former Prairie Grove volleyball and softball coach Chris Collins is now on staff at Valley View High School. According to the school website, Collins and his wife, Erica, have been married since 2007. They have three sons: Kinsler, 8; Kolby, 5; and Keaton, 3. Erica teaches fourth grade at University Heights Intermediate School.
Collins is the head junior high volleyball coach, assistant senior high volleyball coach, and assistant softball coach.
In the classroom, Coach Collins teaches 10th-grade World History. He loves all things history and government.
“I believe in teaching students to examine the “WHY” things happen in history and to interpret how we can learn from those things and apply those lessons to the present,” Collins states in his teacher’s profile posted online. “I try to teach students to look at all sides of an issue and to not make decisions out of emotion but from a well-constructed process by which they can gauge the best outcome. We must learn from history, not erase it. We must be determined to not make the same mistakes those before us did. And we must always be careful to not judge history by today’s standards. We are supposed to be better than before, otherwise everything we have gone through is for naught.”
