FARMINGTON — Coach Si Hornbeck took over coaching Farmington’s seventh grade football team for 2018 and led the team to an undefeated season.

The season began with a solid 24-0 win over rival, Prairie Grove, on Aug. 30 in Horbeck’s debut.

“It went well,” Hornbeck said. “We were up 16-0 at halftime after two great touchdown runs by Gabe Burfitt and two 2-point conversions by Harrison Oliver. We tacked on another touchdown after half with another run by Gabe Burfitt. Cameron Vanzant added the 2-point conversion with a run around the right side.”

That became the first of three shutouts posted by the seventh graders prompting Hornbeck to say he was extremely pleased with the kids.

“Anytime you can keep a team from scoring it’s something to be proud of, especially when that team is the Prairie Grove Tigers,” Hornbeck said. “I loved how physical we played. It’s a sign of great things to come.”

That prediction proved accurate with the Cardinals blanking Gravette, 8-0, on Sept. 6; then reeling off wins over Pea Ridge (22-8), Harrison at Allen Holland Field (20-12), and Mountain Home (14-12). The seventh grade season concluded with a road trip to Harrison and Farmington winning, 14-0, on Oct. 22.
