Phyllis Reed of Lincoln holds a photo of her husband, Thurman Reed, who served in the U.S. Army 194445. He passed away in 2007 and they had been married 57 years. Thurman Reed told a story of being shot in the knee in combat just before Thanksgiving. His fellow soldiers stopped the bleeding but had to leave him hidden until after dark. They came back and carried him out on their rifles. They had Thanksgiving dinner out in the field that year.
