Former Officer, Firefighter Stopped For DWI
PRAIRIE GROVE — A former part-time Farmington police officer and former Farmington volunteer firefighter was arrested in connection with driving while intoxicated, according to a Prairie Grove police incident report.
Duaine Peck, 40, of Farmington, was stopped at 4:14 a.m. June 9 when the vehicle he was driving was going 75 mph in a 55 mph zone on U.S. Highway 62 near Clyde Carnes Road, according to the incident report.
The Prairie Grove officer reported the vehicle drove off the road, around a mail box, then suddenly crossed into the inside lane, turned onto Bethel Grove and drove off the road. The report said it appeared the vehicle was going to stop but it then continued to travel several more hundred feet before coming to a stop.
Officer Uriel Parades reported that Peck was unsteady on his feet and stumbled. The officer said he could smell a strong odor of intoxicants and Peck’s eyes were bloodshot and watery.
The officer administrated field sobriety tests and the report states that Peck failed those and had a preliminary breath test that registered a blood alcohol concentration of .19.
The officer arrested Peck in connection with DWI, speeding, careless driving, prohibited driving and open container. He was taken to the county detention center and a final breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol concentration of .22. Peck is to appear in Prairie Grove District Court on July 2.
Peck has served as a volunteer part-time police officer for Farmington Police Department, mainly helping with events, such as parades and Shop with a Cop, according to Lt. Chad Parrish. Parrish said Peck was taken off the department’s roster on May 31.
Fire Chief Mark Cunningham said Peck was taken off the volunteer firefighter roster six years ago. He served as a volunteer firefighter for about 10 years.
