Dream Comes True For Lincoln Girls

- By Mark Humphrey

LINCOLN — From the beginning of the season, Lincoln’s girls golf team dreamed of going to state.

Problem was they didn’t have enough girls out, but that didn’t stop them from preparing to make their dream happen.

Lincoln’s varsity began the season with just two girls out for golf. Yet, senior Morgan Coker-Gage and sophomore Landree Cunningham, along with coach Emilianne Slammons, wished aloud for at least one more girl to come out so they could qualify for state. Their dream came true when Abby Goldman and Paige Umberson joined the team combining with CokerGage and Cunningham to qualify for state.

Coker-Gage shot a 132 while Cunningham and Goldman each shot a 139 with Umberson at 141 for

Lincoln to compile a team score of 410 and place 12th during the State 3A meet held Tuesday, Oct. 1, at DeGray Lake Resort State Park.

Bismarck won the team title with 258 points with Baptist Prep second at 294 and Smackover third with 307. Bailey Dunstan, of Baptist Prep, won the individual title by shooting a 71. Makenna Norris, 82; Gloria Berry, 87; and Hannah Collie, 89; finished two-three-four to assure Bismarck of the team title.
