FARMINGTON — The absence of point- guard Logan Burch, out for the season with an injury, was felt as the Cardinal boys basketball team sustained a 42-35 road loss at Pea Ridge on Jan. 7.

“We’re struggling to score points. We’re struggling to find another outside threat, but the kids are working hard. They’re playing their tails off and we’re doing a good job of guarding people and I’m proud of them,” said Farmington coach Beau Thompson.

Devonte Donovan put in a 3-pointer to tie the game at 5-5 but Pea Ridge took a 9-7 at the end of the first quarter. Logan Landwehr came off a screen to nail a trey giving the Cardinals a 10-9 lead. Pea Ridge reclaimed the lead and was on top 21-13 at the half, then continued a 17-4 Blackhawk run that gave Pea Ridge a 26-14 lead in the third quarter.

Midway through the third quarter Donovan blocked a layup. Farmington cleared the rebound and got the ball to DeCorey Thomas going hard to the goal. He scored and was fouled drawing the Cardinals within 28-19. Pea Ridge scored the next five points before Noah Disheroon knocked down a 3-pointer narrowing the gap to 33-24.

Thirty-one seconds into the fourth quarter Cade Young’s three brought Farmington even closer at 33-27. Watson squared up and drained a trifecta just inside five minutes to play that lowered the deficit to 35-30. Donovan drove hard to the goal after picking off a pass near mid-court and banked in a shot on the run keeping Farmington within, 37-33, at the 1:54 mark of the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals, however, could not finish in front and lost 42-35.

Noah Peterson had 10 points for the Blackhawks while Landwehr led Farmington with 13.
