Lady Cards Rain 3- Pointers

FARMINGTON — Farmington (13-1) routed Highland, 69-36, on Dec. 26 in a first round tournament game of the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Invitation­al at Mountain Home.

Farmington girls basketball coach Brad Johnson didn’t take the victory lightly, noting Highland qualified for state last season and narrowly lost to De Queen, 46-43, at the 4A State tournament.

Trinity Johnson made a trio and Makenna Vanzant had 2 treys while Joelle Tidwell recorded 2 steals helping Farmington surge out to a 21-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Four different Lady Cardinals rained down five 3-pointers in the second quarter. Trinity Johnson sank two more 3-pointers and was joined by Vanzant, Audrey Culpepper and Carson Dillard as Farmington doubled up on Highland’s scoring production leading 38-19 at halftime.

The Lady Cardinals continued to bomb away from 3-point range and again made four trifectas in the third quarter. Trinity Johnson knocked down two, Kaci Drain got in the act and Vanzant added another, stretching the Lady Cardinal advantage to 30 points during the third quarter. The Lady Cardinals were firmly in control of the game, celebratin­g a 57-27 lead at the end of the third period.

Farmington reserves saw action in the fourth quarter. Hungry for playing time they produced a dozen points in the period. Trinity Johnson knocked down 7-of-12 treys and led all scorers with 21 points. She also had 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Vanzant went 4-of-5 beyond the arc and added 18 points and 6 assists for Farmington. Tori Kersey chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists for the Lady Cardinals.

Abby Dietsche led Highland with 16.
