Election Polls Open Tuesday

FARMINGTON — Voting centers will be open 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, for ballots that include preferenti­al primary, non-partisan, judicial general, annual school and special elections.

All eligible voters in Washington County can cast their ballots at any of the locations in the county. Voting centers in western Washington County: Main Street Baptist

Locally, the ballots will have a race for a seat on

Farmington School Board and a Washington County special election for a .25-percent sales tax for an emergency communicat­ions system. Ballots also include races for judgeships and ballots for county, state and national elected positions.

Prairie Grove School District will hold its annual school election on Nov. 3.

Farmington School Board

Two candidates are running for Position 3, a fiveyear term, on Farmington School Board: Josh Petree and Mark Vaughn. This is the first time either has run for an elected office.

Petree is director of project learning with Walmart Stores Inc. He has lived in Farmington for more than 18 years and has two children attending Farmington schools. He has a bachelor of science business administra­tion degree in marketing management and internatio­nal economics from the University of Arkansas.

Vaughn is a senior manager for Tyson Foods and has lived in Farmington for more than 13 years. He has three children in the Farmington School District. Vaughn graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayettevil­le with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiolog­y with an emphasis in sports medicine/athletic training. He has a master’s degree in business administra­tion from Webster University.

Lincoln School Board

Lincoln School Board member Kenneth Albright is running unopposed for Zone 2. This is a five-year term.

.25% Sales Tax

Washington County voters will see a proposal for a .25% sales tax increase to pay for an emergency communicat­ions system. If approved, the sales tax would only be in effect for 12 months.

The ballot title:

Adoption of a one-fourth of one percent (0.25%) local sales and use tax within Washington County for a period of twelve (12) months, the net collection­s of which remaining after deduction of the administra­tive charges of the State of Arkansas and required rebates, will be distribute­d only to the County and used to acquire, construct, improve, expand, equip, and maintain public safety communicat­ion system facilities and apparatus, including any necessary land acquisitio­n and utility and road improvemen­ts therefor.

Voters will cast a ballot “For” or “Against” the question.
