FARMINGTON — Farmington led after each of the first three periods, but was outscored 13-8 in the fourth as Pea Ridge forced overtime and escaped Cardinal Arena with a 53-51 win.

Th e dec is i ve 4A- 1 Conference boys basketball game played Tuesday, Feb. 4, wasn’t decided until Wes Wales hit two free throws for Pea Ridge ( 17- 4, 9- 0) with 4.7 seconds remaining in overtime and Marqwaveon Watson’s 3- point try was off as the horn sounded.

The win allows the Blackhawks to secure the top seed from the league’s West Division for the District 4A-1 basketball tournament at Prairie Grove last week.

Farmington (13-9, 6-3) led 35-30 at the end of the third quarter but couldn’t maintain its lead. The Cardinals played for the last shot, but Carson Simmons’ driving shot wouldn’t go down.

The game was tied 43-43 at the end of regulation. Pea Ridge led by three twice in overtime. Logan Landwehr answered with a pair of foul shots and a clutch 3- pointer tying the game at 49- all with 43.8 seconds to go in overtime. Wales beat Farmington’s full- court press and threw down a two-handed monster slam dunk, but

Simmons drove hard to the goal and was fouled at the other end. He made both free throws, knotting the score for the last time at 51-51.

With 6.9 seconds remaining Landwehr was laid out by a hard screen and limped off the court. Meanwhile, as play continued the ball rolled out on the baseline and Pea Ridge in-bounded underneath its own basket. Wales nearly choked on the first free throw but it bounced back in. He sank the second and Farmington couldn’t answer.

Landwehr finished with 17 points for the Cardinals with Austin Shelley and Watson each chipping in a dozen points apiece.

Noah Peterson had 18 points and Wales 14 for the Blackhawks.
