Farmington shuts out Lady Bulldogs
FARMINGTON — Farmington chalked up an impressive 10-0 win over Class 5A Greenwood behind a strong pitching perfomance by senior Kamryn Uher and Justine Davidson’s walkoff two-run homer in the sixth.
The midweek game, played on Wednesday, April 19, started out as a pitchers’ duel between Kamryn Uher (6 innings, 7 hits, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk) and Greenwood’s Haley McAdams (5.2 innings, 10 runs, 10 hits, 3 strikeouts, 5 walks), although McAdams surrendered a run on a wild pitch in the first inning.
Uher earned her seventh win of the season for Farmington (17-1, 5-1). She also went 1 for 3 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs to aid her cause.
The Lady Cardinals added a run in the second inning and held a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when they tacked on four runs, increasing the margin to 6-0.
Kennedy Griggs (1 for 3, triple, 2 RBIs), Katie Fleming (1 for 4, 1 RBI), and Davidson (2 for 4, home run, 2 RBIs) each drove in runs during the sixth with Davidson ending the contest when she went yard with one runner on to obtain the run-rule victory.
Farmington knocked out 10 hits in the game. Reese Shirey went 2 for 3 with a double, scoring three runs as the leadoff hitter.
Greenwood had seven hits in the game. Pugh (2 for 2, double) and Ireland Cooper (2 for 3) led the Lady Bulldogs’ offense, but Farmington forced them to leave eight runners on base while maintaining the shutout.
Greenwood committed no errors. Pugh had six put outs.
The 4A-1 District softball tournament began Tuesday with No. 6 Huntsville taking on No. 7 Berryville at Pea Ridge. Also on Tuesday, No. 4 Prairie Grove plays host to No. 5 Gentry at 5 p.m. while Pea Ridge entertains the winner of the Huntsville versus Berryville game, at 6 p.m.
The winner of the Prairie Grove versus Gentry game advances into Wednesday’s 4 p.m. semifinal against top-seeded Gravette on the Lady Lions’ home field, while No. 2 seed Farmington takes on whichever team survives among Berryville, Huntsville and Pea Ridge at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Gravette.
The consolation is slated for a 4 p.m. start followed by the championship game on Thursday at Gravette.
