LINCOLN — One night after what she termed a subpar performance, Lincoln senior Sarah Snodgrass put on a show, finishing with a game-high 37 points and 15 rebounds.

Snodgrass’ double-double empowered Lincoln (10-6, 2-2 3A-1) to bounce back from a first-round blowout loss to hand Waldron (4-11, 0-5) a 69-56 loss in the Bill Frye Invitational tournament hosted by Mansfield on Thursday, Dec. 28.

“My teammates helped a lot. We were really good at pushing the ball up the court that game. We knew that was what was going to work,” Snodgrass said.

Snodgrass plays like a gangbuster on the court, yet never postures herself with any flamboyant behavior that might draw unnecessary attention to herself off the court. As for her aggressive drives to the basket, relentless tendency to crash the boards and penchant for pursuing loose balls, Snodgrass feels like she’s simply fulfilling her role as a basketball player.

“It’s just whenever I go onto the court I know that’s my job and how I can have an impact on the game. Off the court, I just be myself,” Snodgrass said.

Snodgrass was hitting on three levels. She scored on the fast break, hit some 3-point shots and sank free throws. She’s known for banking shots in off the dribble, but said that’s not as easy to do at the varsity level as it was in junior high.

“Basketball is more physical the older you get,” Snodgrass said. “It helps with my teammates working with me, throwing the ball to me after practice and letting me work on my post moves so I can get my focus.”

Waldron (4-11) was led by 17 points by Nayely Vatsana, all in the second half.

The Lady Wolves advanced into the tournament consolation game against DeQueen with the victory.

All but the first-round games of the tournament hosted by Mansfield were played after an early holiday deadline.

Waldron lost 45-37 to Hackett in the first round of the tournament. Hackett (1-8) stopped an 8-game skid in picking up its first win of the season at the Bill Frye Invitational. Alona Rothwell scored a game-high 18 points to lead the way for the Lady Hornets. Waldron (4-10) got a team-high 14 points from Sadie Espinoza.

Hackett outscored Waldron 12-5 in the fourth quarter.
