LINCOLN — Pitching, hitting, fielding, Lincoln wrapped it all up into a complete game package in dismantling Bergman, 18-0 and 22-3, in a 3A-1 Conference baseball doubleheader rescheduled to Wednesday, April 17.

The Wolves honored their eight seniors on the roster and celebrated senior night in between games. There were some memorable performances among the Class of 2024.

Game one starter Aiden Olson worked deep into the count against several batters, but the one thing he consistently had going was getting a called strike three. Olson struck out three of the four batters he faced in the second inning, fanning Landon Hayes and Corben Mills on called strike three deliveries. The third inning began the same way with Olson catching Evan Berry and Jackson DeBear looking. He then struck out Zeb Atkins, who swung and missed at a 1-2 pitch to end the game.

Drew Moore knocked a 2-run homer out of the ballpark in game one, then started game two and struck out the side in the first inning.

Jake Chambliss was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, driving in a run. He came on to play first base in the fourth inning of game two and took a throw from shortstop Harrison Coker-Gauge when Kellar Price induced a groundout.

Kellar Price took the mound as the closer in game two and struck out Berry in four pitches on a called strike three. He issued one walk but made up for that by fanning Logan Henson on three straight pitches, all swings and misses.

Bergman loaded the bases in bottom of the second inning in game two. After giving up a run on a passed ball, the Wolves turned an unconventional double play when Berry struck out but started for first and Mills came off the bag, taking steps towards second. Lincoln got the ball to first baseman Kaleb Roy and he tagged Mills out to end the inning.

Senior Kellar Price teamed up with his younger brother, freshman Corbin Price, to pick off a runner at second.

Corbin Price was on the mound. He gave up a single to Zeb Atkins, who stole second, but was thrown out cheating off the bag when Corbin Price whizzed the ball to Kellar Price, in perfect position to make the play.

Jace Birkes stole three bases on a trip around the world after reaching on an error.

LINCOLN 18, BERGMAN 0

Lincoln won game one in three innings, 18-0.

Leadoff hitter Kellar Price got on base and two batters later, Moore homered to put the Wolves up 2-0. Olson reached on an error that scored two runs with him cruising all the way to third. Roy also reached on an error that allowed another run to score and him to go to second.

Corbin Price jetted around the bases for an in-the-park home run, staking Lincoln to a 7-0 lead. Coker-Gauge singled into left field to drive in a run and Kayden Job doubled down the third base line to give the Wolves a 9-0 cushion after one inning of play.

Bergman coach Kyle Matthews told his players their effort was subpar.

“You guys are just going through the motions, try, play hard, that’s all I’m asking,” he said.

Lincoln added nine more runs in the second on singles by Roy, Corbin Price, Moore and Wallace. Birkes walked with the bases loaded, scoring a run. Chambliss’ bases-loaded walk accounted for an RBI. Kellar Price hit into a fielder’s choice that scored a run.

Olson struck out the side in the top of the third to end the game early.

LINCOLN 23, BERGMAN 3

The Wolves routed the Panthers again in game two. Moore again kick started a big inning by doubling off the wall to plate Coker-Gauge. Trace Wallace doubled down the first base line driving in a run. Two more runs scored on passed balls before Corbin Price’s 2 RBI double made it 7-0.

Kellar Price ripped a triple into right field, scoring a run. Coker-Gauge drove a single past shortstop into left field for an RBI. Kayden Job doubled on an 0-2 pitch to drive Lincoln’s 10th run across the plate. A run scored on a passed ball and Wallace upped the margin to 12-0 on a groundout.

Roy and Corbin Smith each drove in a run by singling and Lincoln claimed a 14-0 advantage in the top of the first inning.

Ty Burks’ pop-up landed for a single driving in a run as Lincoln increased its lead to 15-0 in the second inning.

Bergman used two walks and a single to load the bases and scored on a passed ball to extend the game beyond the third inning. The Panthers got two more runs on RBI singles by Dawson Lively and Landon Hayes yet trailed the Wolves 15-3 at the end of the third inning.

Job led off the fourth with a walk, then scored on Wallace’s groundout. Birkes reached on an error and made the Panthers pay for dropping a throw at first. With Burks batting, he stole second, then third and home to push Lincoln’s lead to 17-3.

Kellar Price sent a fly ball deep causing two outfielders to collide, which resulted in two runs scoring. Olson singled with the bases loaded to notch the Wolves’ 20th run.

At that point Surber demonstrated sportsmanship and began holding runners at third, rather than piling the runs on.

Lincoln could have padded its statistics on both Job’s groundout and Wallace’s double with the bases loaded but Surber preferred not to run the score up. Birkes singled up the middle to drive in the final run with Lincoln winning big, 22-3.
