Dad’s Common Sense Tips
If you are a first time visitor to Walt Disney World, there are a few things you might want to know before you get there.
Dad’s Common Sense Tip #1 – Make friends with the My Disney Experience App
About 4 years ago, Disney introduced the My Disney Experience App. In the beginning, it was cute, buggy and somewhat but not really useful. Over the last year that has totally changed. It is now almost essential that you use the My Disney Experience app when you are at Walt Disney World.
You can now, make and track dining reservations, Fastpass+ reservations and even keep up with your hotel and tickets with the app. The great thing is the app works on any Internet capable device. your desktop, your phone, your tablet - they are all connected.
Look around and play with it. It has park maps with waiting times, character locations, Photopass pictures and even shopping information. Yes, Disney has FREE Wi-fi all around WDW so it will work in the parks.
Play with it before you go. Trust me on this one. You and My Disney Experience need to become friends.
Dad’s Common Sense Tip #2 – Charging your phone
It’s amazing how quickly my phone dies at WDW. At Walt Disney World it seems like my phone dies right around dinnertime when I want to take some pictures of the food at dinner and it won’t work for the nighttime entertainment. I’ve been known to find a plug in a bathroom and sit on the floor for an hour while my phone charged. I looked totally silly.
You can now find charging stations around the parks.you can also take your phone to any Guest Services, provide a charging cable and Disney will charge it for you. Also, Disney just started selling what they call Fuelrods.
Fuelrods are little batteries that charge your phone. You hook them up and in a few minutes your phone is charged again. The great thing about Fuelrods is once you use them, you go to a Fuelrod kiosk and turn your dead one in and get a freshly charged one for FREE. You can keep ‘refreshing’ for your whole trip. Fuelrods cost $30.
Dad’s Common Sense Tip #3 – Don’t forget the paper
Yes, I know this is the Technology issue and Disney is in love with technology, but that doesn’t mean it always works. Yes, Dad the techy says technology sometimes messes up.
Be sure to print out your reservations and have a paper copy ready in case something breaks down. Hotel, Ticket, Advanced Dining Reservations (ADR’S) Fastpass+, and any other reservation you make. Print it out. Bring the print out with you. Just in case.
