Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is the most magical place on earth, and our favorite Disney Parks destination! But there’s lots more going on worldwide – let’s take a look at what Disney is up to around the globe this month!
Disneyland Resort: Anaheim, California
The Main Street Electrical Parade has returned to Disneyland with nightly performances until June 18, 2017. They’re celebrating in style with commemorative banners on Main Street, special turtle float glow cubes for beverages and a whole parade of sweet treats inspired by the iconic parade.
Annual Passholders are in for a salty treat – from January 20 – March 19, 2017, AP holders can purchase a $15 souvenir popcorn bucket which can be used for $1 refills.
Lunar New Year celebrations are in full swing at Disney’s California Adventure until February 5, 2107 with food, music, décor and more all inspired by the Year of the Rooster! Annual Passholders can experience special photo opportunities and interactive activities in honor of the new year as well.
The Star Wars Half Marathon – The Light Side was help on January 20, 2017 and drew more than 17,000 runners – and 35,000 participants for special events over the weekend.
Disneyland Resort was closed early on Sunday January 22, 2017 due to inclement weather, a rare occurance.
Disneyland has announced a new service, Maxpass which combines the ability to book Fastpasses via an app, and to unlimted downloads of their Photopass images. The cost is $10/day.
Disneyland Resort Paris: Paris, France
Beginning March 26, 2017, Disneyland Paris will be celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary – It’ Time to Sparkle. New concept art shows the park decked out in blue and silver for the celebration.
As part of Season of the Force, the Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain: Rebel Mission overlay on Discoveryland’s Space Mountain. This version of the classic attraction will take riders into the Battle of Jakku.
The “new look” Mickey and Minnie Mouse that have been arriving in Shanghai and Florida have made their way to Disneyland Resort Paris for parades and meet and greets.
The Euro Disney Group has partnered with Pierre & Vacances to bring to life a new leisure complex, Villages Nature Paris and are currently recruiting staff for the opening of the new attraction.
Tokyo Disney Resort: Tokyo, Japan
Splash Mountain, Alice’s Tea Party, and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, and Turtle Talk are all closed for lengthy refurbishments, reopening between March and May 2017.
Tokyo Disneysea’s 15th Anniversary celebrations are ongoing until March 17, 2017.
Hong Kong Disneyland: Hong Kong, China
Iron Man Experience debuted January 11, 2017 at Hong Kong Disneyland. It’s the first Iron Man ride-through attraction for Disney and includes not only a ride but also meet and greet opportunities and interactive experiences.
The Year of the Rooster is being celebrated until February 2, 2017, which includes presenting each guest with a special lai see containing a piece of chocolate to bid good fortune.
Shanghai Disney Resort: Shanghai, China
The resort has reportd 5.6 million visitors in it’s first 6 months of operation.
Aulani – A Disney Resort & Spa: Ko Olina, Hawaii
Aulani has introduced it’s 2017-2018 Aulani Ambassador, Manako Tankaka.
Adventures by Disney
After a successful first year, the popular Danube river cruise is returning to the Adventures by Disney lineup in 2017.
Disney Cruise Line
Select Disney Magic sailings from New York in 2017 will include the first ever Marvel Day at Sea offerings, featuring action packed entertainment, activities, desk parties, merchandise, and of course – themed food and beverages.
Porthole Cruise Magazine has honored Remy (the French inspired restaurant found onboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy) with its 2017 Editor-in-chief Award for Best Specialty Restaurant.
Film, TV, and More
If you loved Moana, get ready to head back to theatres to experience it again – in the sing-a-long format that proved so popular for Frozen.
Disney is up for 8 Oscars this year between Zootopia, Moana, The Jungle Book, Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Piper. Fining Dory didn’t make the cut.
Disney has released a new adult coloring book app, called Color by Disney – available on IOS and Android devices.
The new Star Wars film debuting this December has been officially given a name: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.
The new live action Beauty and the Beast film coming to theaters this March has some serious star power behind the soundtrack – Ariana Grande and John Legend will sing the title track and Celine Dion who sang for the 1991 animated versions will return to sing an all new original song.
Over on Broadway, Aladdin will say goodbye to the original Genie – cast member James Monroe Inglehart is leaving to perform in Hamilton and Major Attaway will take his place.
Rapunzel fans are getting excited as Tangled: Before Ever After is set to head to the Disney Channel this spring with an original movie and television series. Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi return to voice Rapunzel and Eugene/flynn, respectively.
