Best Restaurant: Hurricane Hanna’s

WDW Magazine - - Contents - BY DANNY SHUSTER

Hurricane Hanna’s is a great poolside bar and eatery, right next to Disney’s Beach Club Resort’s epic pool complex, Stormalong Bay. Whether you’re staying at The Yacht and Beach Club, taking a stroll from Epcot, or exploring the Boardwalk area and in need of a quick bite and a great cocktail—hurricane Hanna’s is the place to be!

Hurricane Hanna’s is more of a walk-up counter than a proper restaurant, but they still serve up some great eats and tasty, refreshing cocktails for you to enjoy. Hanna’s is styled with a quaint seaside theme and while a lot of the seating is a bar/counter setup, there are some shaded tables available as well.

Hurricane Hanna’s is located outside of Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, adjacent to Stormalong Bay. While Hanna’s is open to any WDW Guest, keep in mind that the pool is still reserved for Guests of The Yacht and Beach Club. There are no reservations and seating can be a bit of an issue given the proximity to the pool and the fact that this is a great spot to get a some drinks and lounge for a while, meaning that tables/chairs don’t always turn over very quickly.

The menu is simple but satisfying! The focus is easy-to-eat foods and snacks, and tasty

beverages (both alcoholic and non). There is a standard selection of kids meals and Mickey Check meals that are great for fueling up the little ones after a long day in the pool, and a nice selection of burgers, sandwiches, and meal-sized salads on offer. Standouts include the Vegetarian Falafel Pita (with Hummus, Lettuce, Tomato, Cucumber, and Soy Tzatziki Sauce), which is crisp and fresh and very filling, and also the Seafood Roll (served on a Parker House Bread with Citrus Mayonnaise and a choice of French Fries or Apple Slaw). The Seafood Roll, in particular, was absolutely delicious. Not too heavy on the mayonnaise, with lots of nice big pieces of seafood. The last time that we visited Hurricane Hanna’s, it was during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, and I was on a bit of a Seafood Roll craze after devouring several in the America Pavilion, and again at Columbia Harbour House, but the roll at Hanna’s put the other ones to shame.

Since Hurricane Hanna’s pulls double duty as a Quick Service eatery and a poolside bar, you can expect the cocktails to be excellent. First off, there is a well-rounded selection of bottles and draught beers, including some local Florida specialties. There is also a wide range of non-alcoholic slushies, smoothies, iced teas, and lemonades for the kids or anyone

who doesn’t imbibe. There is, of course, a full bar, so you can order whatever strikes your fancy but take a look at the specialty cocktails because there are some delicious treats in there.

If you’re looking for fun and fruity, check out the Category 5 (Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, Crème Banana, Peach Schnapps, Orange and Pineapple Juice, and a splash of Grenadine with a float of Gosling's 151 Rum)—fair warning: this one is deceptively strong. If you want something light and refreshing I’d recommend a Coco-jito (Rumhaven Coconut Rum, Coconut Water, and fresh Lime Juice topped with Soda Water) - a great twist on the always refreshing Mojito. If you’re keeping up on current cocktail trends, go with the Apple Mule (Crown Royal Regal Apple, Dekuyper Pucker Sour Apple, and fresh Lime Juice topped with Ginger Beer)—a fruity play on a Moscow Mule, Mules seem to be showing up everywhere these days. Last, and certainly not least, Hurricane Hanna’s is one of a handful of spots at WDW to serve the fan-favorite Piña COLAVA (Barcardi Raspberry Rum blended with Piña Colada Mix and Raspberry Purée)—this drink is as delicious as it looks!
