10 THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT DISNEY’S OLD KEY WEST RESORT
You might remember Disney’s Old Key West as one of the very first Disney Vacation Club Resorts. But did you know that anyone regardless of whether you’re a DVC member or not can book their vacation there? Well, I’m happy to say that YOU can book your dream Walt Disney World vacation and stay at this beautiful Resort! Designed after Florida’s own Conch Keys, you’ll find plenty areas to play and relax at this sprawling Resort! If you love Florida, you’ll easily fall in love with Old Key West.
Think pastel colors, waterfront shopping, and all kinds of beachy goodness! So find your perfect beach chair, grab your umbrella drink, and let’s get started on the top 10 things that you’re sure to love about Disney’s Old Key West Resort!
You can’t help but notice the enormous sandcastle near Hospitality House. This hosts a dry sauna at the lighthouse base and an incredible 125-foot long waterslide. Sandcastle Pool, Old Key West’s main pool is 149,000 gallons of pure water fun! Lounge on the sandy beach area, relax in the whirlpool spa, or let the little ones splash in the kiddie pool. Old Turtle Pond, South Point, and Miller’s Road sections also offer all-ages quiet pools and spas. Make sure to check out the dolphins at the main pool!
2. OLIVIA’S CAFÉ
For breakfast, lunch and dinner, stop by Oliva’s Café. This Table Service restaurant has
Island-inspired fare in a nautical setting. Enjoy banana bread French toast or crab cake eggs benedict (with delicious lime hollandaise) in the mornings, along with a full breakfast menu. Lunch’s must-try item is the Duval Street Burger. This mouthwatering burger is topped with pepper jack, grilled shrimp, and pico de gallo. And no dinner is complete without conch fritters! Order them as an appetizer before a meal of Southernmost Country Fried Chicken or Island Barbeque Pork Ribs.
The kids will want the Glowing Character Punch, served in a light-up Disney character souvenir cup. Grownups will want to try the Turtle Krawl, a delicious combination of coconut, spice, and white rums with pineapple, orange, and key lime juices.
Making delicious hot “schmoes” (as Buzz Lightyear would say) under the stars at Old Key West is a fantastic way to end a busy day of park hopping. Relax, unwind, grab a hot chocolate, and enjoy the company of your Resort neighbors while the fire crackles.
4. MOVIES UNDER THE STARS
By Sandcastle Pool deck, watch your favorite Disney films for free! It’s another great way to wind down after a long day. And if you’re really lucky, you may even be able to catch a new release or the newest film not even out in theaters yet! This is weather permitting and you can grab a list of movies and showtimes from the Front Desk.
5. GAME ROOMS
Old Key West has not one, but two game rooms! Flying Fish and Electric Eel—stocked with family-friendly video games. You’ll need to purchase a Game Card, preloaded with whatever amount of cash you’d like. Reload the card as you see fit! Try your hand at racing games, air hockey, and much more!
6. SPACIOUS ROOMS
I know you love your family and friends, but sometimes you just need your own space. Old Key West has the space you need, with Studios as large as rooms at some of the Deluxe Resorts. One-bedroom villas sleep up to five, while a two-bedroom sleeps up to nine. The two-bedroom has one kid bed, two queens, a queen pullout sleeper, and a twin sleeper-chair. With a garden tub, private porch, and full kitchen, it’s truly a home away from home.
Feeling a little competitive? There are plenty of sporting activities available for your friends and family. It may even be the chance to meet some new friends! Try your hand at beach volleyball, basketball, tennis, and fishing.
8. BIKE RENTALS
Bike rentals and surrey bike rentals are both available from Hank’s Rent ‘N Return. I think everyone needs to try a surrey bike at least once in their lifetime! This is a testimony to team work and there is bound to be laughter and memories made. Surrey bikes can accommodate two or four riders.
9. COMMUNITY HALL
Conch Flatts Community Hall at Old Key West has lots of activities for the entire family! Play complimentary foosball, pool, video games, Ping-pong, and shuffleboard. You can also check out all the equipment you’ll need for tennis, volleyball, and basketball. You may even check out DVDS and books to bring back to your Resort room.
10. IN-ROOM CELEBRATIONS
Old Key West is the perfect Resort if you’re celebrating a special occasion with a group of family and friends. The rooms are larger and Disney offers In-room Celebrations complete with cakes, room décor, and customizable gift baskets. Disney’s Floral and Gifts can also deliver flowers and personalized gifts with all your favorite Disney characters.
Old Key West is the definition of Florida cool! The cozy, comfortable atmosphere combined with delicious dining options will make this Resort worth visiting again and again.
