KNOW YOUR SPECIALIST… Gastroenterologist
The medical community has become a vast variety of specialties and subspecialties. Gone are the days of seeing one doctor for “all that ails you”. Now, your Primary Care Physician (or Generalist) is referring patients to specialists who concentrate their practice on particular illnesses that involve specific tissues or organ systems within the body. From Anesthesia to Nephrology to Urology, these doctors have added a number of years on to their education and training to give their patients an added level of care. Wading through this sea of specialties can be intimidating and overwhelming. We would like to help take the fear and confusion out of this necessary level of medical care. In this latest addition to our regular line up, we will be discussing different specialties— the doctors training, their expertise, what are some of the symptoms you may experience, and the types of testing or screening you may see in this specialty. This issue we look at gastroenterology.
