Wild­cats bol­stered play­off hopes with OT vic­tory over Hilo

Jalen Gam­bee- led Kon­awaena bol­stered its BIIF wa­ter polo post­sea­son hopes with a pair of vic­to­ries Satur­day at Kona Com­mu­nity Aquatic Cen­ter.

In the most dra­matic of five matches, Pay­ton Wal­ters scored in over­time to lift the Wild­cats past Hilo 10-9.

Gam­bee pow­ered Kon­awaena (4-7) with a seven-goal on­slaught, and Wal­ters recorded a hat trick.

Jae­lyn Esta­bilio scored four goals for the Vik­ings (2-8), in­clud­ing two in the fourth quar­ter to help send the game to OT.

The Wild­cats also beat Wa­iakea 7-4 to leapfrog the War­riors (3-6) for fourth place, with Gam­bee scor­ing four more goals. Jas­mine Early tal­lied a hat trick for for Wa­iakea.

Kon­awaena and Wa­iakea are sched­uled to play again Wed­nes­day.

Kame­hameha (12-0), mean­while, wrapped up its first un­de­feated reg­u­lar sea­son since 2014, beat­ing Hawaii Prep 10-3 be­hind Emma Kanoa’s five goals.

Kealakehe also took to the pool once, get­ting four goals from Han­nah Tom­lin­son to beat Wa­iakea 10-6.

The Waverid­ers (8-3) and Ka Makani (8-3) will play Fri­day in the BIIF semi­fi­nals at Kame­hameha’s Nae­ole Pool.

Also on Satur­day, HPA han­dled win­less Keaau 19-1. Sarah Houser led the way with five goals.
