Read Lockhart Gallery
The Read Lockhart Gallery's debut in Taos in the fall of 2017 opened like a breeze of fresh air, clearing away cobwebs and dust. The forlorn space at 107 Paseo del Pueblo Norte (just a few doors south of the Taos Inn) took on a new glow of excitement. This is a refreshing new hub of activity for people to gather to discuss art and socialize in its midst. Here, one will view a new version of contemporary figurative painting that has a sense of the renewal; masterful drawing with a kind of foreboding beauty. The works are created from Read Lockhart's imagination, mixing live models with invention, environments and explored spaces as well as experiences. The gallery invites its visitors to think, to question and to embrace the impact of the images.
Educated in the classics at St. John's
College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and trained in drawing and painting in Europe, New York and Philadelphia, Lockhart's work is as deep in thought and provocation as it is in technical skill and exemplary use of materials.
Guest artist exhibits have included the works of Jerome Michael Mclaughlin of Wimberly, Texas, and the black and white photography of David Lockhart and Kristel Elizabeth.
Upcoming exhibitions will include the abstract paintings of Ryan Ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the paintings of Evan Boggess,
Shepardstown, West Virginia, and the works of Joshua Schaffer, of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. As a new gallery, Lockhart plans on maintaining interest and vigor by introducing to his own work a variety of high quality paintings and sculpture by visiting artists.
