Calling Coast to Coast
We ask leading galleries from coast to coast what their thoughts are on the market and where it might be headed.
Approaching a business with just a brick-and-mortar view can add to the innate risk of owning and growing that business. I’ve learned to keep a broader perspective and approach things from all angles. This attitude enables us to build lasting connections with our clients and our artists. We work hard to balance both a strong online presence, using social media, art hosting websites, and our own website, with personalized client relationships. Recognizing the importance of that balance enables us to make art as accessible as possible, in ways that people individually respond to. In a time where our exposure to news and the world, in general, can be overwhelming, people really yearn for things that remind them of the beauty that still surrounds us. Art does that. It reminds us of our interconnectivity, what links us to each other, to our history, to the animals we share the earth with, to the earth itself. Three of our artists, who are truly masters in their chosen medium, speak directly to those links. Crow Indian painter Kevin Red Star, shares details of his culture and tribal traditions through vivid color and composition. The sculptures of Star Liana York speak to the deep-rooted relationship we have with the animal kingdom. Ben Nighthorse uses traditional, as well as contemporary techniques, to handcraft unique wearable jewelry designs. Collectors are always excited about new artists, but these three artists are seen with a surety that continues to deepen and grow.
