Once our new issue is released I grab an advanced copy of it, head to my favorite morning coffee spot, sit in the corner and go through it story by story, page by page. When I do this, I’m not looking for errors or things we could have done better. Instead, I’m trying to envision what a collector would think as they thumb through the new issue as it arrives at their home or if they pick it up at an art fair, an auction, a museum exhibition, a gallery or on the newsstands.
I do this because this is what is at the core of this magazine. We love what we do and we love art and we want to show the best work that is being created each month in every single issue. But the other side of this is that we love collectors, we love what they do, the passion they have for all of this, and we want to show them work that we think will be appropriate pieces to add to their collections. Whenever we write an article, we ask the artist or gallery to send us new work. Available work. Work that has come literally straight from the studio—sometimes still wet—and this in turn makes the magazine new, exciting, fresh, different and utilitarian every month.
We love and believe in the art we show just as we also love the idea that the magazine is used. That it assists collectors in their daily navigations of the art world and helps them find treasures that they can add to their collections, be it from a gallery, a museum event or an auction.
We appreciate all the sold stories we get each month from galleries and artists around the country who have sold work straight from the pages of this magazine. And we are always looking for new galleries, new artists, new auctions and new events to feature on these pages.
