Art Summit
The Clark Hulings Fund to host art business summit in Texas beginning September 7.
The Clark Hulings Fund for Visual Artists has announced a special Art Business Summit from September 7 through 9 in Dallas-fort Worth, Texas. The weekend-long event will give professional working artists the opportunity to learn and ask questions about the business side of their art careers.
The Art Business Summit will help artists “take charge of their careers, captivate their audience, maximize the extraordinary professional advantages they already possess, and sell their art effectively and profitably.” Topics during the event include building an action plan, creating a brand story, establishing a portfolio, multiplying revenue streams, pricing for profit, selling art online effectively, building a strong support team, squashing resistance, sales strategies and much more. Artists can also participate in interactive sessions where they get to ask summit leaders their specific business questions.
The program will be led by Elizabeth Hulings, CHF director and co-founder; Carolyn Edlund, CHF sales director and events manager; and Daniel Digriz, CHF education director. “Texas is home to a remarkably large number of working artists,” says Hulings. “We are thrilled to be delivering tangible business skills and training in the Lone Star State.”
The fund was named after Western artist Clark Hulings, who embarked on his career when he was 40 years old, abandoning a thriving profession as a commercial illustrator to become a fine artist. “He was fortunate that he could finance this transition himself, with savings from his illustration work, but most artists lack this option,” the fund says. “[Clark] Hulings believed that artistic development can and should occur continually, and never stopped trying to become a better artist, honing his craft until he was well into his
80s, but he also understood that— no matter how great the talent or strong the discipline—the door to success swings on financial pegs. Career advancement is predicated on an artist’s ability to seize and exploit opportunities, especially unanticipated ones, which is why CHF offers exactly this kind of support.”
The summit will take place at the Alexander Mansion, just blocks from Dallas’ vibrant arts district. For details about event schedules and fees, including earlybird pricing, visit clarkhulingsfund.org/events/texas for more information.
