Big Changes
The Cowboy Artists of America heads to Texas for its next annual exhibition and sale.
2019 is shaping up to be an important year for the Cowboy Artists of America. Not only is the famous art group adding some additional art opportunities, for members and collectors, it is also making major changes to its annual sale.
The CAA will move its annual exhibition and sale to the first weekend of November— November 1 and 2—and this year the exhibition will be held in Fort Worth, Texas, at the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibit Hall at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. The event, which will likely be titled the Cowboy Artists of America Show & Sale, will replace
Cowboy Crossings, which has been held annually in October at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma since 2011. CAA president Jason Rich says the shake-up will help the group shape its future and focus its attention on new
opportunities.
“We greatly enjoyed our time in Oklahoma City, and you’re not going to find a greater venue to view Western art than the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum,” Rich says. “But moving forward, we wanted to take advantage of some things that were unique to the CA, including some new educational and charitable opportunities. We’re excited at what the future may hold.”
Rich adds that collectors can expect the same high-quality works of art at the Texas show. “It’s going to be a beautiful show as always, and all the members will be bringing their best work,” he says.
The CAA will also be offering workshops timed around the annual CA trail ride, which this year will be held at the Coldwater Ranch in northern Utah. Details are still forthcoming, but artists can expect a suite of workshops in Utah in June. One artist who is already slated to teach is Grant Redden. Additionally, the group will once again feature an online sale of works created in and around the trail ride. The online sale, first introduced in 2018, will take place about a month after the trail ride and feature dozens of works from members.
