Recently Acquired
Works by Martin Grelle, George Carlson, Curt Walters and others have been acquired by the Briscoe Western Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas.
“The Briscoe Museum is deeply grateful for these generous gifts,” says Liz Jackson, vice president of the Briscoe Western Art Museum. “Our collection is rapidly growing due to the many donations of Western American art and artifacts we have received over the past year.”
The recent gifts come from several donors, including the Jack and Valerie Guenther Foundation, Judy and Warren Knowlton, and Debbie and John Montford. Due to a slew of recent donations, the museum has opened the New Works Gallery on its first floor. The space will feature a rotating display of the museum’s newest acquisitions.
Donated works include Martin Grelle’s
Gathering Storm, a 1996 painting that was purchased in 2016 at the Coeur d’alene Art Auction; a George Carlson bronze The Conqueror; Curt Walters’ Grand Canyon scene
Cimmerian Whispers; John Coleman’s bronze
The Healer; and several others.
“The many generous and unique donations to the museum have been a cornerstone in establishing the Briscoe as one of the premier Western Art museums in the region,” says Jackson. “…We are thrilled to add such interesting and beautiful works to our museum collection that align with our mission to preserve the art, history and culture of the American West.”
