In a career spanning more than 40 years, the paintings of Montana native Tom Saubert focus on the representation of the Western genre, its people and history, with an emphasis on historical accuracy and an introspective exploration of the human condition. Saubert has participated in several prestigious invitational shows including Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum of the American West, and over the course of his career he has received several awards for merit. He has been a member of the Rendezvous Group of Artists since 2000.
“For my entire professional career as an artist my working method as a painter has included doing the required research for authenticating a particular theme and time period…it is a lot of work but has proved to be a marvelous way for getting actual experience and interaction with the subject, providing true inspiration and uncommon insight for the painting process,” says the artist.
Saubert is currently exploring two new series: one on the war horse masks used in Plains Indian warrior culture and the other on the painted Medicine Lodges of the Blackfeet Tribes. Saubert will be featured in a show at Underscore Gallery in Whitefish, Montana, on August 1. He is also represented by Montana Trails Gallery in Bozeman.
