Western Art Collector

It’s All Here

- Sincerely, Joshua Rose

When we started putting together this September issue of Western Art Collector on the editorial side, we got a little giddy. Well, more than giddy I will say. We were delighted with what we saw before us. First of all, and more generally, we love wildlife art and being able to showcase new examples of the best wildlife art to collectors each month is one of the simple joys we get from publishing this magazine. So, just knowing that we will have another September issue filled with the best wildlife art being created today was enough to get smiles on our faces!

But then we started looking at what is happening in the galleries this month and that is when our feet really started to elevate off the floor. The best and brightest young Western artists working today all have shows this month as well. The list is staggering. Brett Allen Johnson at Maxwell Alexander, Mark Maggiori and Thomas Blackshear II at Trailside in Jackson, Glenn Dean at Legacy in Jackson. All of them. In one month. Even better, in one issue!

We decided that we would extend the coverage for each of these shows to a longer, extended preview, six pages each in the front of the magazine! We did this because we love what these artists are doing, we love the work that is currently coming out of their studios and we want to share all of that with our collectors and subscribers around the country. Part of buying art is being able to get to know the artists. And with these longer features, collectors can understand even more what makes the artists tick, to find out what compels them to bring such beauty into our world.

We feel it is our job to seek out these opportunities and then share them with you. We’ve always said that the best collectors are the most informed collectors and by offering these extended feature stories about the leading artists on the market today we know we are contributing to this education.

P.S. Our collector homes are quickly becoming a hit! We feature one in each magazine and we drive around the country looking for opportunities to meet the best collectors out there today to include in this feature. Remember, our features are about the art! Sure, furniture and architecture are nice but we are art nerds so to speak and what we look for in these homes is the quality art put on the walls! If you have a collection you’d like us to photograph, please get in touch with me at editor@westernartcollector.com.
