Western Art Collector

State of the Art

-

In the last few months, we have heard rumblings about new galleries opening in Jackson Hole, Santa Fe and Colorado. Some have opened already. Others are in discussion. We’ve also talked to auction specialists and owners and many feel that there has never been a time when more Western art has exchanged hands than what’s happening now. Western auctions aren’t just happening out West, but we are seeing work pop up in places like North Carolina, Boston and New York City.

Further, the development and rise of the Briscoe Museum’s Night of Artists event, largely due to the hard work of CEO Michael Duchemin and his wonderful staff, have added another strong museum show to our social calendar. And, speaking of the Briscoe, I’m going to reiterate a point I made while moderating the panel discussion at this year’s Briscoe event. And that is this: The time is now. Now is the time for Western art. Now more than ever. I’m meeting young artists painting in the Western tradition, I’m meeting young collectors (one is featured in this month’s collector home), I’m seeing more museum exhibitions, more historic projects like what’s happening at the Couse-sharp Historic Site in Taos, New Mexico, and just generally more excitement and enthusiasm for Western art than I have since starting this magazine nearly 15 years ago. Adding fuel to this will definitely be the Frederic Remington-winslow Homer exhibition opening early next year at Denver Art Museum and the Maynard Dixon exhibition opening this month at the Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West.

So, you can see why I feel the way I do. The time is now. What are you going to do to be a part of this wonderful experience?

And, as you know, the only place where you can hear about all these great things each and every month is on the pages of Western Art Collector. We are very proud to say we are the only monthly magazine dedicated entirely to every single aspect of the Western art market. We love it. We are obsessed with bringing you the best and most insightful information with every issue. So, come along for the ride. We promise you it won’t disappoint.

Sincerely, Joshua Rose Editor

P.S. In the next few months we will be launching something that will completely transform the way art is bought and sold in this market! Stay tuned for details!
