State of the Art: Utah
From stunning desert landmarks such as Bryce Canyon, Arches National Park, Capitol Reef National Park and Zion National Park to the Great Salt Lake and the snow-capped mountains in Park City, Utah features a bounty of natural beauty that is sure to inspire artists and collectors. It’s no wonder, then, that the Beehive State is home to some of the best galleries, art museums and artists in the West.
Here, art lovers and snow bunnies alike can hit the slopes in iconic resort town
Park City, nestled high up in the Wasatch Mountains. The city celebrates arts and culture with annual events including Park
City Songwriter Festival, held on September 13 and 14; Park City Wine Festival from October 3 to 6; and the famous Sundance Film Festival, taking place on January 23 to February 2, 2020. Park City’s Artoberfest kicks off on October 12 at Kimball Art Center, while the monthly Last Friday Gallery Stroll hosted by the Park City Gallery Association unveils all that historic Main Street art galleries have to offer.
Another one of the state’s art hubs, Salt
Lake City, is home to the Utah Arts Festival. The annual event, held on the fourth weekend of June, welcomes more than 70,000 people to Library and Washington squares downtown. Salt Lake also hosts a monthly Gallery Stroll on the third Friday of every month.
Summer also welcomes the Summerfest Arts Faire held in mountainside community Logan. The juried festival takes place annually during Father’s Day weekend and features fine art, food and entertainment on the lawn of the famed Logan Tabernacle.
This November brings the arrival of Zion National Park’s Centennial Celebration of Art. Honoring Zion National Park’s
2019 Centennial, the Forever Project, in partnership with the park, is a distinct celebration of art and history from November 6 through 10.
