Em­bark on a gen­uine ad­ven­ture at Desert Caballeros West­ern Mu­seum in Wick­en­burg, Ari­zona, where world-class art col­lec­tions meet im­mer­sive his­tor­i­cal ex­hi­bi­tions. DCWM’S gal­leries and au­dio tours tell the fas­ci­nat­ing sto­ries of ex­plor­ers, cowboys, min­ers and oth­ers who lived and worked in the Amer­i­can West. At the core of the mu­seum’s art col­lec­tion are works by Ge­orge Catlin, Al­bert Bier­stadt, Fred­eric Rem­ing­ton, Charles M. Rus­sell, the Cow­boy Artists of Amer­ica and the Taos So­ci­ety of Artists. Re­cent ad­di­tions to the mu­seum’s col­lec­tion in­clude pieces by New Mex­ico artists Michael Naranjo

and Kim Wig­gins.

Painter, sculp­tor and il­lus­tra­tor Ed Mell

will be­come the sev­enth re­cip­i­ent of the

Desert Caballeros West­ern Mu­seum’s Life­time Achieve­ment Award at the Mu­seum’s an­nual HEART of the West Gala on Satur­day, Jan­uary 18, 2020. An ac­com­pa­ny­ing ex­hi­bi­tion,

Ed Mell’s South­west: Five Decades will be on view at the Desert Caballeros West­ern Mu­seum from De­cem­ber 21 through March 8 and will cover the full breadth of his ca­reer. With an eye on the hori­zon, the mu­seum hosts its Cow­girl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West In­vi­ta­tional Ex­hi­bi­tion and Sale each spring. Fea­tur­ing the tal­ents of more than 50 of the coun­try’s best West­ern women artists, the event runs from March 27 through May 10.
