Jackson Hole Art Invitational
Six-artist show
Gallery Wild welcomes six guest artists to exhibit paintings at their location in Jackson, Wyoming, for the Jackson Hole Art Invitational. Viewers will see masterpieces from featured artists
Leslie Duke, Carrie Penley, Laura Adams, Jim Bortz and collaborative pieces by Regan Johnston and Christa Rijneveld.
Luxuriously textured and colorful painting, Blooming Between Seasons by Duke, is just but one fine example of what can be expected at the show. “My work aims to amplify the beauty of seemingly simple subjects while exploring the emotional power of color,” Duke explains. “Each piece is meant to preserve a brief moment in time and leave the viewer with a greater sense of connection with the present moment.”
Penley also works toward the collective good in her paintings, and hopes to capture beauty, depth and a feeling that inspires and uplifts. “From start to finish, I am continually experimenting with contrast, value, light, texture and the relationships between them to form structural unity and balance,” says Penley.
Penley’s process also involves starting over, reworking areas and knowing when to move forward, “for in life, everything revolves around relationships and selfdiscovery,” she says.
Another exciting piece in the show,
Pollinators – Calliope Hummingbirds by Adams, is a continuation of her current focus and body of work titled Three Billion.
“The name of this series represents the three billion North American birds that have been lost in the past 50 years, according to a recently released study in the journal
Science,” says Adams. The cause for such
a loss, many of them familiar backyard birds, include habitat loss, overuse of pesticides, building strikes, and free roaming domestic cats.”
Adams presents her subjects in idealized environments, free of the hazards now facing the birds. With the work Pollinators, she has placed a pair of Calliope Hummingbirds in an idealized Western environment, where they can engage each other in a private space.
“From a hummingbird’s point of view, everything is big - they are dwarfed in their world by the flora that surrounds them,” Adams says. “However small these beautiful creatures are, they are safe in this space.”
The show will run August 6 through August 16, with an all-day reception on August 6 from 12 to 7 p.m. Join Gallery Wild in celebrating these exceptional creations.
