Pent-up Energy
Welcome to the May issue of Western Art Collector! We are excited to bring this issue to you for two reasons: First, it is a very busy time in the Western art world as artists are creating new work to enjoy, celebrate and acquire. We believe pent-up creativity is happening in studios all around the country and we are here to chronicle the new spring art within these pages.
And second, we have some amazing features that we can’t wait for you to read. One of them is our feature on The Sons of Charlie Russell, a new exhibition opening at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, which is insightful and provides great perspective on the Cowboy Artists of
America. And the feature is written by the exhibition’s curator! If you want to learn more, be sure to tune into our podcast, the American Art Collective—not only have we had a number of CAA artists on, we’ve also talked about
Charlie Russell himself.
The Taos Six series at Blue Rain Gallery is another excellent feature. This year’s show is on the work of Eanger
Irving Couse, so it should be really amazing. We know you like the history behind the artists you collect. Western
Art Collector focuses on both contemporary and historical art, so this show fits in nicely since it’s both.
Also in the magazine are two of our special sections—
The Art of the Horse and Painting Canyons & Deserts—and our State of the Art: New Mexico destination guide. New to our destination guide this year is a complete calendar to all things New Mexico from now through August (and beyond), when Santa Fe Indian Market celebrates its centennial. Our sister publication, Native American Art, is the official magazine of Santa Fe Indian Market in August. If you haven’t been to Santa Fe to experience the market, please put this on your planning list. It is an amazing town where it is reported that 1 out of 11 people living there is an artist. The vibe is amazing! We hope you find this issue amazing! Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Wendie Martin & Adolfo Castillo Publishers
