Western Art in Santa Fe!
Welcome to the May issue of Western Art Collector! This issue contains our highly anticipated State of the Art: New Mexico destination guide. Western and Native American art has long been a focal point for collectors traveling to New Mexico, and it’s something you will see reflected in all of our issues, but especially this one. Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, Gallup and many other cities—we take you to where the art will be. The history of the West can be found everywhere in New Mexico. It is said that one out of every 10 people living in the Land of Enchantment is an artist or involved in the art world. That is a huge number for our collectors to note. Starting on Page 68 you can find all of our coverage, including top galleries and hotel recommendations to guide you on your art journey. We have outlined things to do and where to go while you are visiting this great destination in the Southwest.
In fact, we will be in Santa Fe for Native American Art magazine’s VIP Fashion Party on May 3 to celebrate SWAIA Native Fashion Week in Santa Fe. This dazzling event revs up the weekend with an opportunity to rub shoulders with renowned designers, fashion enthusiasts, the media and cultural influencers. You are invited to this night of fashion and art! You can find more information by scanning the code on this page. You will see Adolfo Castillo, Michael Clawson and myself there. Come meet the team!
This issue also has our beloved Art of the Horse section. The horse has been used in the West for work, travel, exploration and adventure, and is an important part of the Western story. Gallop over to Page 98 to be swept into the West with these majestic animals.
In Michael Clawson’s letter, he writes about the late Ed Mell, who will always remain a special part of Western Art Collector’s history. His contribution to the art world was enormous as a trailblazer and a marvelous artist.
