EDITOR’S NOTE
How is it already February of 2024? Snow is on the ground for many of us (unless you live in Texas like me!), which means it’s the perfect time to stay inside and peruse the latest issue of Western Life Today.
I love our wintry cover photo featuring Emma Gunderson and Quarter Horse gelding RCA Blue Huckleberry in Ephrata, Wash. She’s a quality control manager at RM Wineries in Washington, but she’s also an official Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) timer, and she was the 2017 Miss Moses Lake Roundup. With her horses, she mainly does ranchwork, including roping at brandings and sorting cows. If you’re ready to update your personal scent, check out the the many Western fragrances we’re highlighting on page 6. If you’re looking to plan a trip fit for the Western film aficionado, turn to page 19 for inspiration.
What I’m really pleased to bring you this issue are the stories of three cowgirl makers creating beautiful items stamped with their own unique looks. From Donna Howell-Sickles’ vintage-style cowgirl art and Paige Albrecht’s leather goods to Melinda Dennis’ silver pendants and jewelry, these women bring their creativity to each piece.
Lastly, don’t miss our story about Jodie Morton, an Australian long-distance rider using her journeys to raise awareness for mental health issues through the Green, Gold and Blue project—see more on page 28.
