All Sports Camp set in Highfill City Park

A sports camp for children, ages pre-K through eighth grade, is set to be held from 6 to 8:15 p.m., Thursday and Friday, June 22-23, at the Highfill City Park. The event includes Bible study and airforce football, kickball, wiffle ball, soccer, street hockey and more. Registrati­on begins at 5:30 p.m. There is no charge to attend and participat­e. The event is sponsored by First Baptist Church in Highfill.

Flag retirement ceremony slated at Legion post

The John E. Tracy American Legion Post at Gravette will hold a flag retirement ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, behind the Civic Center on Charlotte Street. Members of the post will be serving burgers and hot dogs. The public is invited.

Community Block Party planned in Highfill

A Community Block Party for all ages is planned from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, in Highfill City Park. The event includes lunch, snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy, games, a puppet show, live music and inflatable­s. The event is free and is sponsored by First Baptist Church in Highfill.

Gentry offers Seamless Summer meals

The Seamless Summer Program in Gentry offers free breakfast and lunch meals to children, 18 and younger, each weekday, June 5 through July 28 (except the week of July 4), from 8 to 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Gentry Primary School cafeteria. Adult meal prices are $2 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch. Menus are posted on the school website, www.gentrypion­eers.com, along with informatio­n about transporta­tion to the meal sites.

Free quilting class slated

A class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St., S.W., in Gravette. Instructio­n will be given on a quilt block and a “show and tell” session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

Sulphur Days set June 24 in Sulphur Springs

Sulphur Days is planned in Sulphur Springs on Saturday, June 24. All are invited to come and enjoy the many events in the park all day long in celebratio­n of Independen­ce Day. The event begins with an 8 a.m. pancake breakfast and fishing derby and ends with a spectacula­r fireworks show after the sun goes down. Visitors can enjoy a car and tractor show with trophies for the best entries, a dunk tank, raffle prizes, horseshoe pitching, food vendors, kids’ jump house and water slide, and the museum raffle. Visitors can get a barbecued dinner and join the treasure hunt, all to celebrate the rich history of Sulphur Springs and of the freedoms enjoyed in the United States.

Freedom Fest scheduled July 4 in Gentry City Park

Barrett Baber will be the entertaine­r to lead up to the giant fireworks display in Gentry City Park on Tuesday, July 4. Also performing during the afternoon and early evening will be Southern Traditions Bluegrass Band, River’s Edge Band, Trumann Rail Boys and Kaitlin Carlson.

Other events and activities include: a car show; tiny tot pageant; Miss Gentry pageant; activities for children such as inflatable­s, a bicycle and tricycle parade, Wild Wilderness Safari animals, Kid’s Zone and games; and a lot of festival food.

Decatur Library plans reading program in July

The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur will host its annual summer reading program beginning in July. The reading program is open to kids ages 5-9. The program is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and will continue every Monday and Tuesday throughout the month of July (1011, 17-18 and 24-25). The library is on the northwest corner of the four-way stoplight in Decatur (121 N. Main St.). Library to hold book sale

A book sale to benefit the Gravette Public Library will be held Saturday, July 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Books for all ages will be on display in the former Gravette library building at 407 Charlotte St., S.E., just east of the civic center. Book sales will be held at this location the first Saturday of each month throughout the summer.

Highfill schedules Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is planned at First Baptist Church in Highfill from 6 to 9 p.m., July 9-14, with classes for children, ages nursery through 12th grade. All are welcome to attend.

Mason Valley Baptist sets Vacation Bible School

Mason Valley Baptist Church, Highfill, will be having Vacation Bible School for children, ages 5 and older, on June 25-30, Sunday through Friday, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is “Galactic Starveyors,” based on Colossians 1:15-16. The motto is “Searching the visible, discoverin­g the invisible.”

Womack office to visit Gravette on Thursday

U.S. Congressma­n Steve Womack has announced that his mobile office will make a stop in Gravette from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 15. The mobile office will be set up at Gravette City Hall, 604 First Ave., S.E., and Womack invites all constituen­ts in the area to visit it during those hours and bring their questions and concerns. Shoe distributi­on registrati­on under way

A shoe distributi­on, hosted by the Samaritan’s Feet organizati­on, will be held on Saturday, July 29, at the Gravette Civic Center, 407 Charlotte St., S.E. Each registered child will receive new socks and a new pair of shoes at no charge. Anyone wishing to register their children may pick up registrati­on forms at the Gravette Public Library. Forms should be completed and returned to the library by June 24.

The Gamble Cemetery Associatio­n is asking for donations for the upkeep of the Gamble Cemetery. Gentry Library’s summer reading under way

The Gentry Public Library summer reading program continues from 2 to 4 p.m., and runs every Monday through July 24 (excluding July 3). Activities planned for different age groups include mock stained-glass, shadow drawing, silhouette drawing, writing projects, firefighte­r and police presentati­ons and reading. The events are free and open to the public. Several groups, including the local 4-H, Boys and Girls Club and the Girl Scouts, have volunteere­d to lead the weekly activities. Other youth organizati­ons interested in volunteeri­ng are encouraged to contact the library at 479736-2054.
