- Gentry Summer Reading continues through July 24

Gentry fishing derby set at Flint Creek Nature Park

A fishing derby for kids is being planned at Flint Creek Nature Park on July 22, from noon until 4 p.m. The event is for children, 12 and under, and bait and prizes will be provided. To register, call the chamber office at 479736-2358 or email info@gentrycham­ber.com. The event is sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents, and a USDA Commodity Program to residents of Decatur and other communitie­s without a commodity program. All that is needed is a valid identifica­tion, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. The commodity program requires income informatio­n. For more informatio­n, stop by the church during food pantry hours.

Quilting class scheduled Saturday at church annex

A free class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St., S.W., in Gravette. Instructio­n will be given on a quilt block and a “show and tell” session will be held. Please bring finished projects or work in progress and a snack to share.

Seamless Summer meals offered through July 28

The Seamless Summer Program in Gentry offers free breakfast and lunch meals to children, 18 and under, each weekday through July 28, from 8 to 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Gentry Primary School cafeteria. Adult meal prices are $2 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch. Menus are posted on the school website, www.gentrypion­eers.com, along with informatio­n about transporta­tion to the meal sites.

Decatur summer reading program continues in July

The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur is hosting its summer reading program this month. The reading program is open to kids, ages 5-9. The program began on Monday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and will continue every Monday and Tuesday throughout the month of July (10-11, 17-18 and 2425). The library is located on the northwest corner of the four-way stoplight in Decatur (121 N. Main St.). Karen Jones, librarian, is asking that anyone interested in attending this summer event pre-register by calling 479-752-7323.

Library’s Teen Tuesday continues in Gravette

The Gravette Public Library will host Teen Tuesday events from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library the second and fourth Tuesday of each month throughout the summer. The Tuesday, July 11, theme is Blackout Poetry. Tuesday, July 25, is Board Game Night.

Shoe distributi­on slated July 29 in Gravette

A shoe distributi­on, hosted by the Samaritan’s Feet organizati­on, will be held on Saturday, July 29, at the Gravette Civic Center, 407 Charlotte St., S.E. Each registered child will receive new socks and a new pair of shoes at no charge. Anyone wishing to register their children may pick up registrati­on forms at the Gravette Public Library.

The Gentry Public Library Summer Reading Program continues from 2 to 4 p.m., and runs every Monday through July 24. Activities planned for different age groups include mock stained glass, shadow drawing, silhouette drawing, writing projects, firefighte­r and police presentati­ons, and, of course, READING. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Lions Club meetings set in Gravette, Gentry

The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Subway sandwich shop, 901 S.W. First Ave., Suite D, in Gravette.

The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron club meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette Kiwanis Club sets breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW post meets

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
