Gravette de­feats Elkins, loses at home to Pea Ridge

GRAVETTE — The Gravette Lions split a pair of games last week, los­ing at home against the Pea Ridge Black­hawks March 29 and win­ning on the road in Elkins March 30.

The Lions jumped out ahead of the Black­hawks with a run each in the first and sec­ond in­nings. But a se­ries of sim­ple er­rors by Gravette in the sec­ond, third and fourth in­nings al­lowed Pea Ridge to take a com­mand­ing 12-2 lead go­ing into the bot­tom of the fifth. Gravette man­aged two runs in the fifth, but Pea Ridge was able to hold the Lions score­less in the sixth and sev­enth to take a 12-4 con­fer­ence win.

On the mound for the Lions was Jake Carver, who pitched three com­plete in­nings, throw­ing 67 pitches. He al­lowed nine hits, six runs, four earned runs, and had four strike­outs and one walk. He was re­placed by Hunter Cole who pitched one in­ning, throw­ing 38 pitches. He al­lowed three hits, six runs, three earned runs, and had one strike­out and three walks.

Also pitch­ing for Gravette was Isaac Sul­li­van who pitched one in­ning, 27 pitches with two walks. Thomas Tryon com­pleted the game, pitch­ing two in­nings, 26 pitches and al­low­ing three hits.

Lions-Black­hawks stats:

Gravette: 27-AB, 4-R, 5-H, 2-RBI, 2-BB, 12-SO.

Pea Ridge: 39-AB, 12-R, 15-H, 8-RBI, 6-BB, 5-SO.

Gravette 7, Elkins 6

Gravette jumped out in front with a pair of runs in the top of the first in­ning.

But Elkins also brought home a pair of runs in the bot­tom of the first to tie the game at 2-2. The Elks took the lead in the bot­tom of the third and ex­tended it by three in the fifth in­ning to 6-3. Four runs in the sixth and sev­enth in­nings gave the Lions the lead by one. Elkins was un­able to an­swer the Gravette scor­ing drive, giv­ing the Lions a 7-6 win.

Kel­ton Ta­jch­man was on the mound for the Lions, pitch­ing four in­nings while throw­ing 57 times. He al­lowed four hits, three runs, three earned runs and had three strike­outs and one walk. Brodie Par­sons re­lieved Ta­jch­man, com­plet­ing three in­nings, throw­ing 61 pitches. He al­lowed three hits, three runs, three earned runs and had five strike­outs and two walks.
