Lady Lions victorious at home, on road
GRAVETTE — In spite of all the rain earlier in the week, the Lady Lions won a pair of conference games March 29 and 30, extending their winning streak with 13 games left in the regular season.
The Lady Lions played their longtime rivals, the Gentry Lady Pioneers, at Lion softball field in Gravette March 29. It was all Gravette, and Lady Lions’ Bailey Elmore is credited with pitching a shutout against the Lady Pioneers.
From the mound, Elmore threw 58 pitches with only 2 hits and six strikeouts.
The Lady Lions managed four runs in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead over the Lady Pioneers. From that point forward, the Lady Lions controlled the game, scoring five in both the third and fourth and four in the fifth inning to take the contest, 18-0.
Allee Sweeten was the starting pitcher for the Lady Pioneers. She pitched three complete innings, throwing a total of 75 times, allowing four hits, nine runs, two earned runs and four walks. Sweeten
was relieved in the fourth inning by Makayla Case, who pitched the remaining two innings, throwing a total of 48 times, allowing 10 hits, nine runs, nine earned runs, and one walk.
Gravette: 29-AB, 18-R, 14-H, 15-RBI, 5-BB.
Gentry: 16-AB, 20-H, SO-6.
Gravette 14, West Fork 3
The Lady Lions, coming off of a win over rival Gentry Lady Pioneers the day before, took control of the contest to bring home six runners while holding the West Fork Lady Tigers scoreless until the third inning when they managed to score two. The Lady Lions scored eight more times to the Lady Tigers one to take the contest, 14-3.
Lexi Gerner was on the mound for the Lady Lions, pitching the entire five-inning contest. She threw 77 pitches and allowed five hits, three runs, two earned runs. She had eight strikeouts and walked two.
Pitching for the West Fork was Kyndalle Reed, who pitched the entire game, throwing 91 pitches. Reed allowed 12 hits, 14 runs, and 12 earned runs while walking five.
