Pi­o­neers eke past Lions, 7-6

GRAVETTE — De­spite be­ing out­hit by the Lions, the Gen­try Pi­o­neers took an early lead against Gravette on March 26 and an­swered two runs in the bot­tom of the sixth with two in the top of the sev­enth to re­gain the lead and take the win, 7-6.

Af­ter three runs in the third and another in the fourth and fifth, the Pi­o­neers were up, 5-3, un­til the bot­tom of the sixth in­ning when Gravette’s Jonah Keener scored on a passed ball and Brady Moor­man scored on a pitcher’s er­ror to tie things up at five runs each.

Then in the top of the sev­enth, Zach Jar­na­gan scored on a cen­ter­fielder’s er­ror and Ja­cob Lothes scored on a passed ball, giv­ing Gen­try the edge.

In the bot­tom of the in­ning, Ma­son Da­gley walked and later scored on a walk, but the Pi­o­neers were able to end the in­ning with a Gravette line-drive out to cen­ter.

Gravette fin­ished with six runs on eight hits and had four er­rors. Gen­try picked up seven runs on three hits and had two er­rors.

Over Spring break, the Pi­o­neers played sev­eral games on a Panama City, Fla., trip with teams in Florida, los­ing on March 21, by a score of 8-3, on March 20, 13-0, and on March 19, 13-10.
