Lions dump a pair of games, win one on road

GRAVETTE — The Gravette Lions won a con­fer­ence game against Lin­coln April 5 but dropped two games, an April 2 con­test with con­fer­ence-ri­val Prairie Grove, the other on the road in Cen­ter­ton against Ben­tonville West on April 6.

Prairie Grove 6, Gravette 5

In the April 2 game in Gravette, the Lions were able to score in the first and third in­nings and take an early lead. But the mo­men­tum of the game switched to the Tigers’ fa­vor go­ing into the fi­nal in­ning of play.

In the bot­tom of the sev­enth, with Gravette trail­ing by three, Bailey Soule stepped to the plate. With the count at two balls and two strikes, Soule hit a long fly ball to right field that went over the wall for a two-run home run, bring­ing the Lions to within one. But Gravette was un­able to put any­one else on base as two straight outs gave the Tigers the con­test, 6-5.

Aside from his home run, Soule was able to score one in the first and third. He ended the con­test four of four at bat for Gravette. Bat­ting Gravette: 30-AB, 5-R, 10H, 4-RBI, 4-BB, 2-SO. With Jake Carver on the mound, Gravette was able to pull off a 15-1 win in five in­nings over the Lin­coln Wolves. Bat­ting Gravette: 28-AB, 15-R, 15-H, 13 RBI, 4-BB, 5-SO, 2-E. Lin­coln: 19-AB, 1-R, 3-H, 1-RBI, 0-BB, 8-SO, 3-H.

It was all Ben­tonville West when Gravette trav­eled to Cen­ter­ton April 6.

The Wolver­ines scored first in in­ning one. From there, they added four runs in the sec­ond and third in­nings and one in the fifth to take the con­test over the Gravette Lions 10-0. Dakota McDon­ald is cred­ited with the shutout.

The Lions’ only base hit came in the fifth in­ning when Ma­son Da­gley hit a sin­gle. Bat­ting Gravette: 17-AB, 0-R, 1-H, 0-RBI, 0-BB, 7-SO, 1-E. Ben­tonville West: 21-AB, 10-R, 9-H, 9-RBI, 5-BB, 3-SO, 1-E. Pitch­ing
