- STAFF REPORTS

GRAVETTE — Kurt Maddox has announced he will be seeking re-election as mayor for the city of Gravette. Maddox has served Gravette, beginning on Jan. 1, 2007, as a city council member and then as mayor on Jan. 1, 2015.

Maddox said he came into office with three simple goals, to have a safe, sustainable and service-oriented city. Accompanied by the wonderful leadership team he has around him, he says he has worked diligently to accomplish this.

“We have been ranked in the top 20 safest cities in Arkansas two of the last three years,” Maddox said, and he and his leadership team have seen many awesome accomplishments in the city during the 3½ years since his taking office. A few of the notable things he mentioned are the revitalization of Main Street, a balanced budget with a 400 percent increase in the general fund reserve account, many park updates, several thousand linear feet of new sidewalks put in, many streets paved, a city Facebook page and updated website, all ordinances, resolutions and budgets now listed publicly on the website, a new park in the Hiwasse Community and the latest addition, a beautiful splash park.

“I am blessed to have been a part of our great city’s opportunities over the last four years. I am thankful for the trust the citizens have bestowed upon me, and I ask for your vote for another four years.”

In keeping with a safe, sustainable, service-oriented city, Maddox has put forward some new goals for the next four years: m Set out a clear roadmap for the next decade and beyond to ensure we can handle the growth coming to Northwest Arkansas and our city; m Continue updating old infrastructure, including sewer, water, old sidewalks and streets; m Improve our city’s processes and simplify red tape at city hall.

Mayor Maddox has a master of science degree in leadership and ethics and an MBA degree, both from John Brown University. He has been a small business owner for three decades, creating private sector jobs. Husband to his wife Dawn for 28 years, and the father of six children, he is a family man who is passionate about serving his community.

Mayor Maddox is a member of the Kiwanis International, Lions Club, Heritage Baptist Church and is on several boards, including Benton County Solid Waste, Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning and the Office of Human Concern.
