Pi­o­neers can’t keep pace with Tigers

GEN­TRY — In a much more evenly matched con­test, the Pi­o­neers came up short on Fri­day when they hosted the Tigers from Prairie Grove, los­ing 33 to 14.

The Tigers scored first, but the Pi­o­neers tied things back up at 7 with a touch­down and point af­ter by the end of the first quar­ter.

Prairie Grove added an­other touch­down and point af­ter in the se­cond quar­ter which Gen­try matched, but the Tigers scored an­other touch­down be­fore the half­time break to be up by six, 20-14.

The Tigers kept the Pi­o­neers off the boards in the se­cond half and scored a touch­down in the third and a touch­down and point af­ter in the fi­nal quar­ter of the game for the win.

Zack Jar­na­gan, a Gen­try sopho­more, picked up Gen­try’s two touch­downs, one on the ground in a drive from the 1-yard line and an­other through the air. Gio­vanny Ramirez (se­nior) kicked Gen­try’s two ex­tra points.

De­von El­lis (se­nior) led the Pi­o­neers in rush­ing yards, with 55. Pey­ton Wright (se­nior) picked up 80 yards on eight passes. Jar­na­gan had 71 yards on seven re­cep­tions. Gar­rett Hays (se­nior) had 15 tack­les and five more as­sists in the game.

Gen­try (2-3 in con­fer­ence play and 2-6 over­all) is sched­uled to host the Lin­coln Wolves (3-2, 6-2) at 7 p.m. on Fri­day in Pi­o­neer Sta­dium.
