Wolves overcome Pioneers in 38-13 win
GENTRY — The Pioneers held the lead once, in the second quarter, in Friday night’s home game against the visiting Lincoln Wolves; but Lincoln quickly regained the lead and went on to win the game, 38-13.
Brandon Atwood, Gentry’s junior quarterback, gave Gentry (2-7, 2-5) the 7-6 lead with his 3-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter of the game. Garrett Hays scored on a 2-yard run with under a minute to play for the Pioneers’ final score.
Lincoln rolled off 32 unanswered points to defeat Gentry.
The Pioneers amassed 135 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards in the loss. Peyton Wright was the favored receiver, catching the ball five times and picking up 27 yards in the game. Beau Tomlin picked off a Lincoln pass in the first half. Garrett Hays again led the Pioneers in total tackles with six solos and seven assists. Dylan Kilgore and Abran Still had seven solos each.
Caleb Loyd’s 1-yard quarterback keeper and Cam Brown’s 4-yard touchdown run allowed the Wolves (7-2, 4-2) to take an 18-7 halftime lead. Loyd then hit Sterling Morphis with a 25-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter. Christian Crittenden added a 2-yard touchdown run and Bradley Drain scored from 2 yards out.
The Pioneers face the Lions in Gravette on Friday.
