Gravette Veterans Day service set for Sunday

A Veterans Day service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gravette to commemorat­e the 100th anniversar­y of the signing of the armistice ending World War I. The service will also honor Gravette’s World War I air ace, Captain Field E. Kindley. Speaker will be state senator Col. Jim Hendren. An open house and reception will follow at the Gravette Historical Museum Annex, 503 Charlotte Street S.E.

Falling Springs Church to hold pie auction, cake walk

Falling Springs Church will hold its annual pie auction and cake walk at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the church. Money raised will be used for the Christmas program and food baskets for people of the community. All are invited to come and join in the fun and fellowship. Falling Springs Church is located 4 1/2 miles west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Gentry Library Gala set

A gala to support the work of Gentry Public Library is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Gentry Middle School cafeteria. The gala theme is “A Novel Occasion” and tickets are available for $50 each at the Gentry Public Library, Gentry City Hall and the Gentry Chamber of Commerce. Free quilt, craft class offered

A free class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Gravette Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving Street S.W. Instructio­n will be given on a quilt block, and a “show and tell” session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share. Please note that this is a change from the regular third Saturday meeting date.

Senior center holding quilt raffle

Tickets are being sold for chances to win three quilts made and donated by Betty Howard. Tickets, for $1 each or six for $5, may be purchased at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, located at 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette. The drawing will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14. All proceeds go to the Meals on Wheels program that serves homebound seniors in the Gravette, Decatur, Sulphur Springs, Hiwasse and Maysville areas.

Free Gravette Community Thanksgivi­ng dinner set

The Gravette Community free Thanksgivi­ng dinner will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria at Gravette High School. The event is sponsored by area churches and businesses.

Hat and glove giveaway planned in Decatur

Fellowship Full Gospel Church in Decatur will have a hat and glove giveaway from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Decatur Train Depot as a way to help keep the community warm this winter. Hats and gloves will be available for men and women, as well as children and teenagers. The only requiremen­t to receive a hat or pair of gloves is to show up at the designated time and place.

Community Thanksgivi­ng service planned

The Gentry Community Thanksgivi­ng Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Springtown Christian Fellowship Church. Eddie Knight, First Baptist Church pastor, will be the featured speaker. There will be a fellowship following the service. Please bring finger foods.

Fresh yeast rolls offered

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center is taking orders for fresh yeast rolls at $5 per dozen. Call 479-787-5950 and order now for Thanksgivi­ng dinner. Orders will be taken through Monday, Nov. 19. Orders may be picked up on Wednesday, Nov. 21, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. Siloam Springs Regional Hospital will conduct a live diabetic cooking demonstrat­ion and tasting while learning how to manage diabetes at the Diabetic Nutrition Class, starting at 12 p.m., Nov. 13, inside the hospital’s Classroom 1. TOPS meet in Gentry

Gentry TOPS AR113, a non-profit group which promotes healthy weight loss, meets every Monday at the First Christian Church Fellowship Room, Second and Giles, with a weigh in at 2:15 p.m. and the meeting at 3 p.m. There is a small fee to join but the first meeting is free.

First Baptist holds food pantry in Decatur

First Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Roller Avenue in Decatur, holds a community food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more informatio­n, contact the church at 479-7523514.

Decatur UMC pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identifica­tion, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communitie­s without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income informatio­n. GFA food pantry open Tuesdays

The GFA food pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partners with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointmen­t.
