De­catur and Gen­try Christ­mas pa­rades set for this week­end

GEN­TRY — Gen­try’s an­nual Christ­mas Pa­rade is set for 6:30 p.m. on Satur­day, Dec. 8. The Cham­ber of Com­merce-spon­sored pa­rade theme is “Christ­mas Around the World.”

Lineup (at Rail­road Av­enue and Main Street) be­gins at 5:30 p.m. The pa­rade starts at 6:30 p.m. and will pro­ceed west down Gen­try’s Main Street to the city park area.

This year’s theme is “Christ­mas Around the World,” and pa­rade en­tries are en­cour­aged to re­flect that theme as much as pos­si­ble. Pa­rade en­tries need not pre­reg­is­ter but should line up at 5:30 p.m. Gen­try-buck prizes will be given for best use of lights, best mu­sic, best use of theme and over­all win­ner.

In ad­di­tion, Santa Claus will be at the Gen­try Cham­ber of Com­merce of­fice, 212 East Main Street, for vis­its and pho­tos with chil­dren from 3 to 5 p.m. Santa will also make an ap­pear­ance in the pa­rade.

De­catur’s Christ­mas Pa­rade will be held on Fri­day at 6 p.m., start­ing by the car wash at Third and Main Streets and end­ing in Vet­er­ans Park, where there will be a light­ing of the me­mo­rial tree and, weather per­mit­ting, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with chil­dren fol­low­ing the pa­rade in the new chicken shack.

This year’s theme is “I’ll be Home for Christ­mas.”
