Gen­try man sen­tenced for child porn

FAYET­TEVILLE — A Gen­try man was sen­tenced to fed­eral prison Wed­nes­day for child pornog­ra­phy.

Chero­kee Stew­ard, 24, was sen­tenced to 14 years with­out the pos­si­bil­ity of pa­role to be fol­lowed by 25 years of su­per­vised re­lease on two counts of dis­tri­bu­tion of child pornog­ra­phy.

Fed­eral law en­force­ment learned in March a North­west Arkansas res­i­dent was dis­tribut­ing images of child pornog­ra­phy across the so­cial me­dia ap­pli­ca­tion Google Hang­out, ac­cord­ing to court records. Stew­ard ad­mit­ted to ob­tain­ing images of child pornog­ra­phy on­line. Stew­ard fur­ther ad­mit­ted he used the Google Hang­out ap­pli­ca­tion to send images of child pornog­ra­phy to other users.

A fed­eral grand jury in­dicted Stew­ard in April and he pleaded guilty in July.

U.S. District Judge Ti­mothy Brooks presided over the sen­tenc­ing hear­ing. As­sis­tant U.S. At­tor­ney Dustin Roberts pros­e­cuted the case.
