Gentry man sentenced for child porn
FAYETTEVILLE — A Gentry man was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday for child pornography.
Cherokee Steward, 24, was sentenced to 14 years without the possibility of parole to be followed by 25 years of supervised release on two counts of distribution of child pornography.
Federal law enforcement learned in March a Northwest Arkansas resident was distributing images of child pornography across the social media application Google Hangout, according to court records. Steward admitted to obtaining images of child pornography online. Steward further admitted he used the Google Hangout application to send images of child pornography to other users.
A federal grand jury indicted Steward in April and he pleaded guilty in July.
U.S. District Judge Timothy Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin Roberts prosecuted the case.
