Gentry man sentenced for child porn

FAYETTEVIL­LE — A Gentry man was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday for child pornograph­y.

Cherokee Steward, 24, was sentenced to 14 years without the possibilit­y of parole to be followed by 25 years of supervised release on two counts of distributi­on of child pornograph­y.

Federal law enforcemen­t learned in March a Northwest Arkansas resident was distributi­ng images of child pornograph­y across the social media applicatio­n Google Hangout, according to court records. Steward admitted to obtaining images of child pornograph­y online. Steward further admitted he used the Google Hangout applicatio­n to send images of child pornograph­y to other users.

A federal grand jury indicted Steward in April and he pleaded guilty in July.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin Roberts prosecuted the case.
